Dear Sir/ Madam,
Application for Sales Product Manager PositionI am writing in response to apply for the position of Sales Product Manager. I am an undergraduate majoring in Chemistry at National University of Singapore (NUS). I would be graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in May 2010 and would like to begin a fulfilling career in marketing with your organization.
I believe that my prior knowledge and experience gained through my education in NUS would have equipped me with the knowledge relevant to sales and marketing of scientific, laboratory and research instruments to the scientific research community and industries. The courses that I had taken include Instrumental Analysis, Advanced Experiments in Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry. Hands-on laboratory work together with theory based modules had allowed me to deal with many scientific instruments and machineries. With addition of my willingness to learn more about the products that I will be responsible for promoting, I am sure I will be able to provide excellent customer service through extensive product knowledge and to handle any inquiries and eventual sales order.
My past work experiences have allowed me to develop excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills too. I was mainly responsible for promoting apparels in the customer service line and I aimed to hit the monthly sales quota. Being a dynamic, self-motivated and result-orientated person, I am able to complete my tasks successfully. Customers gave feedback that reflected their appreciation for my service and I see these as a rewarding experience.
One of my most challenging experiences was working with Research International Asia Pte Ltd, where I was assigned to complete projects with very demanding deadlines. I had to rush reports under stress and time constraints. Through this experience, I was trained to be diligent, resourceful, and to be able to multi-task. As the projects were assigned to small groups, I got the chance to work in a variety of disciplines with the team where I displayed and developed good interpersonal skills.
I am very interested to get into this line as I feel that it will be exciting to be doing work and be at the cutting edge of science at the same time. The responsibilities of a sales product manager may be largely managerial, but it is in an area where there are real scientific challenges. I feel that I possess the chemical knowledge and experience essential when it comes to sales and marketing of scientific, laboratory & research instruments; so I would like to take this as a chance to broaden my experience outside of chemistry as I adopt strategic planning and tactical activities to promote the products to the relevant communities.
In view of your company's objectives and possible openings, I believe that my capabilities are in line with your current needs. If your organization is looking for a dependable, results-oriented professional with a desire to learn, I would be glad to discuss how my expertise and ability may be of help to your organization. I am confident that I would be an asset to the company in terms of sourcing out new accounts and bringing in more business opportunities.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Yeo Siew Ting
Dear Siew Ting,
ReplyDeleteYou sound very enthusistic about the work in your letter , by supporting with the relevant science modules that you undertook as a chemistry major.
You also displayed much confidence in the managerial position even though you were not a business graduate. This came across as very convincing when you included the previous job employments you listed.
You listed many of the soft skills that you have and this is good introduction to yourself and gives the impression that you have the ability as well as the knowledge required for this job.
It would be good to include that you are people-orientated since this is a job that requires interpersonal relations.
I think your letter is very sincere and passionate. But perhaps you could mention more about why the job at that company, focus on the company in a short paragraph.
It would be better also if you could post the link to the job in your blog entry so that we could see the advertisement as well.
All the best !

Weng yin

Hi Siew Ting,
ReplyDeleteI agree with Weng Yin about the inclusion of a paragraph to talk about your interest in the company. Otherwise, it a well-written letter which shows enthusiasm and aptitude. I feel you have very effectively shown how you can make use of everything that you have learnt so far in the job you are applying for.
In the second paragraph, I suggest you say ‘hands-on laboratory work…has allowed me to manage…’, instead. The word ‘has’ just hints that you can still possess the knowledge and skills and ‘manage’ or ‘operate’, I feel is more apt than ‘deal with’.
All the best with the application!:)
Regards,
Shilpa
Hi Siew Ting,
ReplyDeleteIt’s a very good job application letter with sufficient supporting and your self-confidence.
By listing several relevant modules you took before, you showed that you would be of help to the organization. Besides your academic qualification, it is correct that you emphasized on your past sale experience and your interpersonal skills to reflect the nature of this job. It is also good that in the fifth paragraph you carefully explained why you, as a science student, are qualified for this people oriented job position.
Since this job asks for two years of sales experience while you are a fresh graduate, it could be better if you could explicitly mention this point and explain why you are still qualified for this job by using your internships or else.
Regards,
Yinbei
Hi YinBei,
ReplyDeleteYes I did see the part where they require 2 years of sales experience in this field. But personally I feel that I am still qualified to apply for this job as long as I let them know my interest and willingness to learn if I am given the chance to work with them. I mean, a lot of job ads out there state that they want people with at least 1 or 2 years of experience. But we are fresh graduates and surely we need some place to start our career and so, gain experience.
The organization did state in the first line that they 'welcome applications from fresh graduates as well as those with working experience in the relevant industries' too. So I feel that I am still eligible to apply for this job.
(:
thanks for the reminder though!
From,
SiewTing
