Blog Post #6: Final Reflection

Thinking back, the decision to step out of my comfort zone and bid for this module was because of the desire to equip myself with practical skills; such as resume-writing and how to be a better communicator, which are definitely of use in the future.

13 weeks later, I am glad to say that this module has offered me the skills which I wanted to pick up as well as skills that I had never thought that I could pick up through this course; such as being an active listener and making critical and constructive comments. I believe these life-long skills would certainly help me in the different aspects of my life besides my career.

On a whole, the main message that this course conveyed to me is that understanding the different aspects of communication (verbal and non-verbal) are very crucial to effectively convey a message, prevent any misunderstanding, resolve conflict, persuade or convince others. However, just understanding the communication skills is not sufficient. We have to integrate it into our daily lives and practice it for some time before we could become better at it.

Overall, I am grateful for being able to learn together with the other fellow classmates and I would like to thank Ms Happy Goh for guiding us through this module. (:

  1. Hello Siew ting,

I am so glad we took this module together on our last semester, indeed it is really out of our usual comfort zone.
There are so many elements from this module that are more than just for communication , and many of these skills are so much required in the workplace. I am sure with practice and good observation skills, you can go all out in confidence to the workplace.
You have improved since the first time at ES, from the way you dress to the way you speak now, you are definitely more confident.
It was really good to work with you on the project, and got to know you more in the process.

    Thank you,

  2. Dear Siew Ting

As a graduating student also, I agree with you that the skills learned from ES2007S are not only necessary for our future careers but also important for many aspects of our life. Thanks to ES2007S, we all aware of the importantce of communication in our life.

Although I think all of us still have a long way to go before becoming excellent communicators, I belive we can finally achieve our goals if we can integrate practising of communication into our daily lives, as you said.

Thank you for your comments and feedback on my blog posts, which are really important for my improvement of communication skills especially my written skills.

Good luck in your future endeavors.

  3. Dear Siew Ting,

I completely agree that we have to practice these skills regularly to be able to master them. Indeed, we have learnt many communication skills from this module, and the improvement each of us has made over the past 13 weeks is a testament to that.

  4. Hi Siew Ting,

Although we do not talk much in class, but I still remember that time you lent me a pen but I took so long to return it, I still feel very sorry about that.

I am not commenting on the writing style, 7Cs or others module-related things, instead I want to tell you that you really have a GREAT fashion sense. I always look forward to seeing you in class because the way you dress never fails to inspire me :) I think girls are girls afterall.

I am glad you are motivated by your ambition :) Just a random suggestion, perhaps you can consider stepping into the fashion magazine world as your potential career.

    Take care!

    Regards,
    Shu Yan
